Video Games: Do they ruin your life?

Now I have been asked by several people, do video games ruin your life, and experiencing both sides of it, I thought it was about time to create a Hub Page about it. Now many viewers grew up with the game Pacman, a lovable video game in which you hide from the ghosts and eat the white balls, all harmless fun, and you cant deny the fact that when you were young, you used to play it to. Now many people were thinking that these days, games have become more violent, so lets have a look shall we?

Now people who excessively play video games don't get out of the house very often, as their virtual worlds are better then real life. Some people have become so consumed by it that they shut out all other forms of life just to get a few extra hours with their beloved games. This can become quite harmful to children in particular, as childrens minds are like a sponge, and they absorb everything they see, hear, and do. By playing video games, they learn to do what they see in the game as well, which can lead to violence in the future. This is one of the man things that video games can cause. Another one is mocking friends about the games. They become so consumed that they will do anything to win, and sometimes injure a friend just so they can beat them in the game, which continues with name calling. About 5% of all gamers end up like this, and wont stop until they achieve their goal.

But video games aren't all bad. There are cases that they can help out children. In some mind training games, children can learn new things, or some games can offer facts to help their mind grow. As said earlier, a childs mind is like a sponge, and with the proper education can help them become smarter. School alone cannot help them become great, but these mind training ones in free time can. Another helpful thing that games can do is an escape from reality. As said earlier, this was something that was bad, but it can also be good. When a child or teenager get bullied, they usually feel like theres no point to them being here on earth, but if they can vent out emotions on some games, then they can go through yet another day. Another good thing that games have are online ones. With a good survelence, even you can make friends with people over seas and just by talking to them, anyone can learn different things where their new friends live, and learn new things from them.

When we put this in perspective, video games can be helpful to a childs growth, can help a teenager cool off, or even help an adult relax a bit. Yes video games can become dangerous, but thats only if they spend their entire life on them. If they are given room to breath away from games, then they can live better lives, and use what they learnt from games in real life. So next time you are going to get a gift for either you or someone else, consider that a game can be helpful but make sure it isn't too addictive that they shut everything else in life away.

Personal Note:

When mentioned earlier that I have experienced both sides, I mean that I used to be addicted to games, but learnt from them. At age 2 and a half, I played Kings Quest 3 on the computer, a game I used to watch family members play, which made you spell what you wanted the character to do. However as life went on and became tougher, I depended on video games to help get me through the day, and my life was consumed by it. Hopefully this can help everyone else out in life as well.
